I Am Kitty the Kitten is a picture book for animal lovers, written by Hemmo Vattulainen. Narrated by Kitty herself, Kitty the Kitten showcases the important moments in this Calico kitten’s early life. After traveling to her new home, Kitty finds a delicious meal waiting for her. Kitty never finds time to be bored, as she has both indoors and outdoors to inspect, hoping they are to her liking. After introducing herself to local insects and fauna, she greets the neighboring humans by hiding in boxes and under rugs. After enjoying playtime and pondering the lake at the summer cottage, Kitty approves of her new surroundings as she grows older, knowing that she will be forever safe and loved.
As a cat lover who lives in northern Finland, I was excited to read Kitty's insights into this wonderful country, while sharing her daily adventures whether at playtime or during a nap. It was an absolute delight reading Kitty the Kitten’s picturesque tale in pictures while taking in the breathtaking scenery of Finland’s four incredible seasons. Hemmo Vattulainen has beautifully captured the carefree and wonderful life of a cat that has found its forever home, while also introducing some of the natural surroundings which Finland has to offer. The snow in Finland takes the reader into a whole new wonderland, the likes of which they have never seen, as they watch Kitty explore the white fluff underneath her paws. Interaction with new humans is always a challenge, and one that Kitty seems eager to participate in, as it leads to cuddles, treats, and play. I thoroughly enjoyed the picturesque tour of Kitty the Kitten’s early life and recommend I Am Kitty the Kitten to be read by feline buffs of all ages, as well as those who are curious about what type of incredible scenery this Nordic country has to offer all year round.
